Recently, heavy rainfall in many provinces of Afghanistan has triggered flood disasters, with Baghlan Province being severely affected. 

After the disaster occurred, volunteers from the Beijing Tongxin Yuan Charity Foundation arrived at the disaster-stricken area. Wang Xi, a member of the frontline volunteer team, was interviewed by Xiao Qiao and shared her experiences during the rescue operation. 

I witnessed sadness and pain. 

"From the loss of loved ones to the destruction of property and land by floods, during my investigation in the flood-stricken area of Baghlan Province, I witnessed sorrow and pain," said Wang Xi. 

During the rescue mission, Wang Xi met a villager named Rahmatsha, who was about 60 years old. All of his family members had perished in the flood.

When the flood came, Rahmatsha, who was working on the farm at that time, immediately rushed to help the elderly and children who were trapped by the flood. He rescued them and took them to the roof of the village mosque. 

During the rescue operation, Rahmatsha's wife called, her voice filled with tension and fear. 

The wife said, "Where are you? The flood is going to sweep us all away. During the phone call with her, the children shouted from the other end of the line, 'Dad, save us!'" 

During the call, the wall that separated Rahmatsha's house from the floodwaters collapsed. His wife said, "It's too late. Don't come over. The flood is going to sweep us away..." .”

Before he could finish speaking, the phone call was disconnected. Due to the severe damage at Rahmatsha's home, he couldn't return. After the floodwaters slightly subsided, he rushed home in a state of panic, only to find the house in ruins and all his family members having perished in the flood.

Wang Xi said, "When I asked Rahmatsha what kind of help she needed, he said she didn't need anything. Receiving assistance after losing all her family members was of no use to her. She said, 'Now wherever I go, I can't forget the way my children called out in the phone, 'Dad, save us!'" ..”

"I will gather information at the front, while the rear team will assist in purchasing supplies." 

After the disaster, the Afghan government, the Red Crescent Society and other organizations helped the people rebuild their homes, and the injured had been sent to the hospital for treatment. 

Recently, volunteers from the Beijing Tongxinling Charity Foundation arrived at the disaster area and provided food packages to 300 flood victims. The food packages contained rice, flour, oil and soybeans.

These charitable works are jointly carried out by the front and the back. The front team is responsible for collecting the demand information, while the back team provides support such as fundraising and procurement. Wang Xi, a member of the volunteer team, said that with the financial support of Beijing Tongxinling Charity Foundation, more than twenty rescue and charity projects have been implemented in different provinces of Afghanistan. 

However, at present, they still face challenges such as insufficient budget, no fixed rescue team, and no transportation equipment. Wang Xi said that before each rescue operation, he would first check the fundraising channels and then decide what kind of assistance to provide.

"The Struggling Afghan People" 

Wang Xi explained that Afghan people have been struggling in war and instability for many years, relying on international aid. Natural disasters and the poor population all require international support and assistance.

The charitable assistance from China has enhanced mutual understanding and goodwill between the two sides, and has also attracted widespread attention from all sectors. This is conducive to attracting more donors and volunteers to help the affected people.
